Project Structure

Project Management & Coordination

Objectives:
The primary objectives of this WP are to manage the project to time and budget; to coordinate the activities; to monitor and adjust the implementation plan if necessary; to monitor the data management and ethics.

Responsible Partner: SERCO

User requirements and JDIG Architecture

Objectives:
This WP formulates the user requirements and develops the end user use cases, aiming at efficient decision making and scalable delivery of high-level information, as it is extracted from several sources of information. The EOPEN JDIG Journey is created to map the user needs to technical requirements, and to transform the current to the target decision making model.

Responsible Partner: FMI

EO and non-EO data acquisition

Objectives:
The main objective of this WP is to collect data from multiple heterogeneous sources, such as Earth Observation data, Social Media posts, environmental data and weather forecasts. In addition, this WP aims at the quality control of all streaming information, either in EO or in non-EO data collections.

Responsible Partner: NOA

Knowledge discovery and content extraction

Objectives:
This WP aims to extract content from EO and non-EO data, as collected in WP3. The overall objective of WP4 is to detect changes, concepts, events and communities in large streams of information. Moreover, WP4 foresees the creation of an advanced similarity fusion to assist search with complicated queries. Finally, WP4 groups data of similar content, aiming to deliver user-friendly visualisations and data access to EOPEN’s Big Data collection.

Responsible Partner: CERTH

Semantic representation and the EOPEN ontology

Objectives:
This WP delivers knowledge management, representation and linking of the collected data, to support interoperability and semantic reasoning for decision-making in all use case scenarios.

Responsible Partner: CERTH

System development and integration

Objectives:
This WP will define the technical requirements applying to the hardware, the software and the data, will implement the core (back end) components of the platform, re-using and adapting the ASB platform components where applicable, will implement the front end components of the platform that will allow users to interface with graphical interfaces presenting visual analytics and will prepare the Big Data Infrastructure and implement supporting components such as a monitoring service and data transfer services (connectors). Finally, the whole components will be integrated in a single, multi-tier EOPEN platform.

Responsible Partner: SPACEAPPS

Evaluation and pilot implementation

Objectives:
This WP aims at the evaluation of the EOPEN platform in three use case scenarios. Pilots will be implemented and end users will be trained towards the efficient use of the EOPEN platform. Field demonstrations will showcase the performance and the decision-making of EOPEN in real or simulated flood events in the area of Vicenza (Italy).

Responsible Partner: AAWA

Dissemination and Exploitation

Objectives:
The main objective of WP8 is to create the dissemination, communication and exploitation plan of EOPEN, along with the long-term data preservation plan and standardisation activities, serving a sustainable solution in Earth Observation. Opportunities will be examined in the worldwide market and business models will be created.

Responsible Partner: SPACEAPPS

Ethics requirements

Objectives:
The objective is to ensure compliance with the 'ethics requirements' set out in this work package.
